Coach: Alex Mendes

My name is Alex Mendes, a high-performance speed and athletic development coach based in New Milford, Connecticut. As a former Division I sprinter at Central Connecticut State University, I bring elite-level standards and expectations to every athlete I train. With over two years of high-level competing and coaching experience, I specialize in developing speed, explosiveness, and complete athletic performance.

My coaching goes beyond workouts. Programs are built on proven speed mechanics, plyometric training, strength development, and daily performance habits. Athletes learn how to train, recover, and prepare with the same structure and discipline used at the collegiate and professional levels.

I previously coached at B Sports Performance, working with Oakwood Soccer’s MLS NEXT academy, one of the top youth soccer programs in the country. There, I led offseason speed and plyometric training to improve explosiveness, movement efficiency, and on-field performance.

I currently coach at KidStrong Danbury, working with athletes from walking age through middle school. This experience allows me to design long-term development pathways, meeting athletes where they are while preparing them for the next level. My coaching emphasizes physical performance, mental toughness, discipline, and character at every age.

What Makes Coach Alex Different?

Coach Alex’s background as both a coach and competitor provides a comprehensive perspective on what it truly takes to become an elite athlete. High performance is more than physical ability—it requires intention, discipline, mindset, and leadership.

When working with Coach Alex, athletes receive a structured, high-level development system built for long-term success:

  • Elite Physical Programming: Professionally designed and proven within Division I training environments, MLS NEXT academies, and     high-performance settings.
  • Mindset Development: Developing a growth mindset that drives goal-setting, consistency, and the hunger to reach the best of your abilities.
  • Attitude Development: Making sure each athlete plays for not only themselves, but for their teammates in a positive manner, creating a positive environment and developing leaders.
  • Structure & Discipline: Clear planning and scheduling that goes beyond motivation—instilling discipline, resilience, and grit when standards are tested.

Core Values

  • Respect the Time: When you are here, you are committing to both your time and mine. Arrive focused, prepared, and ready to work with intent.

  • Communicate & Ask Questions: Clarity drives confidence. Athletes are expected to communicate, ask questions, and seek understanding to accelerate progress.

  • Commit Full Effort: This program is for athletes willing to give maximum effort. Results are earned through consistency, intensity, and ownership. You will get out exactly what you put in.

  • Trust the Process: Elite development takes time. Progress is built through disciplined work, patience, and resilience—not shortcuts. This is a long-term commitment.

Competing and Coaching Journey

Captained High School Track

Competed in high school track from 2019-2023 and captained the team in 2023. It was a first taste of leadership in a sport and it helped me realize how much I love seeing my friends improvement, as well as setting a good example for all the athletes younger than me.

MLS Next Plyometric Coach

I spent six months coaching with B Sports Performance, helping condition Oakwood Soccer’s MLS NEXT roster during their preseason. This was my first official coaching role and a defining step in my development as a performance coach.

Working with high-level high school athletes refined my ability to lead large groups, communicate and demonstrate drills with clarity, and coach each athlete as an individual—because elite results come from targeted improvements, not generic training.

Division 1 College Athlete

Competed at the highest possible level of track and field in America. This helped me gain a sense of hunger and competitiveness at the highest possible level and understand the exceptional mindset and rigorous training you have to maintain to succeed.

Kidstrong Developmental Coach

I have spent the past year coaching at KidStrong, where I deliver more than just athletic development—I coach confidence, mindset, and social growth. Working with athletes from ages 2 through middle school, I’ve mastered the ability to communicate, lead, and adapt coaching methods across a wide range of ages. Each program is intentionally different, and this experience has sharpened my ability to meet athletes where they are while holding a high standard for growth, discipline, and progression.
